SuperNoticia — Miss Universe Mistake: Donald Trump Suggests 'Co-Winner,' Finalists React to 'Non-Traditional' Crowning (Video)

Donald Trump may no longer have a stake in the Miss Universe competition, but that didn’t stop him from weighing in on the pageant’s buzziest moment Monday morning. Today‘s Matt Lauer asked Republican presidential hopeful Trump, who was on the program to talk about Saturday’s Democratic debate, what he would have done in the aftermath of Steve Harvey’s announcing the wrong woman as Miss Universe.

“I think I’d make them a co-winner. It would be very cool,” said the candidate, who sold the pageant to WME | IMG in September. “Because what happened to the girl from Colombia is devastating, to give it to her for a couple of minutes and then take it away.

“I would recommend that they have a beautiful ceremony, which is good for the brand and good for Miss Universe, and do a co-winner,” the Republican presidential hopeful added. “I think something like that could work.”

Meanwhile, the Miss Universe Organization released backstage video of both of the women affected by the snafu.

“Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy,” Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, who wore the crown for a matter of minutes before having to surrender it to Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, says tearfully in the video before thanking her fans and getting a hearty cheer from her fellow contestants.

In her reaction video, Wurtzbach calls the “non-traditional”crowning “very 2015.” Hear Trump’s reaction above, then scroll down for the contestants’ takes.
